Roof rejuvenation in Phoenix, AZ

Phoenix is where the Valley’s heat gets measured. If your house has an asphalt shingle roof, here’s what those summers do to it, and what we check first.

Phoenix’s official weather readings come from Sky Harbor, a few miles from downtown. So when you hear how hot it got today, that’s the same sun that sat on your roof.

Shingle Restore Pro works on asphalt shingle roofs and nothing else. If your Phoenix house has shingles that look dry, faded or worn thin, roof rejuvenation may be worth a look. If it turns out you have tile or foam, we’ll tell you straight away that it isn’t a job for us.

The heat on record at Sky Harbor

Here’s what the National Weather Service and NOAA have on file for the Sky Harbor station. Averages are the 1991 to 2020 normals.

The Weather Service called 2024 “the warmest year recorded in the history of Phoenix”. And the heat doesn’t quit at sundown. July nights average 84.5°F.

What that heat does to asphalt

Shingles stay flexible because of oils and lighter compounds in the asphalt. Sun and heat drive those out over time. Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory researchers wrote that heat can “cause loss of volatile constituents”, and that “As a result of oxidation, asphalt becomes harder and embrittled.”

How hot does a Phoenix shingle get? We couldn’t find a published measurement for this city. The EPA’s national figure is that standard black asphalt roofs can reach 165 to 185°F at midday in summer. Read that as the scale of things, not a Phoenix reading. The EPA’s UV guide also lists the city’s typical summer midday UV index at 10, which it rates Very High.

Shingle, tile or foam? We ask first

Phoenix has a real mix of roofs. Concrete tile, clay tile, flat roofs with foam, and asphalt shingles. Rejuvenation is made for asphalt shingles only. We don’t treat tile, foam or metal, so that’s the first thing we confirm. Often a photo is enough to tell. If yours isn’t shingle, our tile and foam roofs page explains your options.

A 1985 house doesn’t mean a 1985 roof

Phoenix is an older city than the county around it. Census survey figures for 2020 to 2024 put the median Phoenix home’s build year at 1985, against 1993 for Maricopa County as a whole. 72% of the city’s housing went up before 2000 (ACS via Census Reporter). With an estimated 1,665,481 residents in July 2025, Phoenix holds more than a third of the county’s people.

None of that tells you how old your roof is. Plenty of those houses may have been reroofed since they were built, some more than once. What tells us something is the roof itself. How the shingles bend. How much granule is left on them. Whether the seal strips are holding. Whether any are lifted, cracked or missing.

What we use, and what isn’t known yet

We use a soy-based treatment called APEX-1132, made by SoyLei Innovations in Ames, Iowa. SoyLei describes it as “not paint, not a roof coating, and not a film-forming sealcoat.” It’s sprayed onto the shingles you already have.

Now the honest part. SoyLei’s published lab work heated shingles to about 140°F to stand in for a summer roof. That’s below the EPA range above, and SoyLei hasn’t published field results from a desert climate. We can’t tell you how the treatment does on a Phoenix roof over the years, and we won’t pretend to.

Your shingle maker matters too. Some makers, Owens Corning among them, have published bulletins advising against field-applied rejuvenators, and a treatment can affect what your shingle maker will cover. Check with yours first. Our FAQ on shingle makers covers what to ask.

Booking anywhere in Phoenix

Phoenix is big, and we come to any part of it. If you’d like a rough number first, start with the instant roof estimate. Outside Phoenix proper? Here are all the cities we cover. When you’re ready, book a free roof evaluation. We’ll confirm it’s shingle, look it over, and tell you plainly whether rejuvenation fits or whether you need a roofer.

The roof evaluation is free. You get photos, a plain answer and your options, even if the answer is that the roof is past treating.

  • Someone gets on the roof, not a drone fly-by
  • Photos and a straight answer before any work
